IN-DEPTH REVIEWS
Qualtrics
Creates surveys designed for researchers, using multiple features to collect data in various ways
Review based on Qualtrics ProductXM plan provided by UCSB
Evaluation format adapted from Kathy Schrock's Critical Evaluation Tools
You can only export surveys as a Qualtrics file or a word doc, but the formatting often gets messed up and hard to read in word.
An account is required to use Qualtrics.
Can be used across different devices, but definitely used best on desktop.
Only if working on different surveys, collaboration is terrible (arguably nonexistent) if try to work on the same survey
Does include a good range of instructions and descriptions for all of its features, including how to fix common issues
Can share surveys as long as it's to other users with an account
Lots of features that start as overwhelming, but if put in the effort to learn how Qualtrics is programmed, easy to learn

Overall score for student learning: 2.57
While Qualtrics is a great tool for creating online survey studies to use for research, it is designed for experts who intend to use this tool for their work and not necessarily for students to learn how to use it. However, if you want your students to learn how to create a survey that has a wide range of features (such as using various question types, random assignment, creating conditions for certain questions), you should really take the time to walk through how to use Qualtrics's various features so students do not get lost or confused.
