INTRODUCTION TO PSYCHOLOGY

Instructor (In-person)

This introductory course covers the basic, foundational studies in psychology and is intended for college students in any major or any year. Historical, seminal studies and psychological processes are covered, as well as how well these findings replicate and more modern, advanced applications of these studies and processes. Multiple areas are covered, ranging from neuroscience and biological psychology, developmental, cognitive, social and personality, and psychology of the self. Lastly, cultural variation is highlighted throughout this course to emphasize the diverse nature of the human, psychological experience.

RESEARCH METHODS IN PSYCHOLOGICAL & BRAIN SCIENCES

Instructor and Teaching Assistant (In-Person)

Research Methods in Psychology is one of the first required courses students must take that introduces what psychological research is like. Students learn how to conduct a literature review, design an experimental or quasi-experimental study, how to find validated scales and measures, and how to critically evaluate research reflect on what can be improved in psychological research. This course culminates into a final research proposal that students must write about a research topic of their choosing.

CLOSE RELATIONSHIPS

Instructor (In-person and Remote)

In a seminar-style course, students are introduced to psychological research on close relationships. The aim of this course is to demonstrate empirical research that provides scientific support for close relationships phenomena, both knowledge that is intuitive and counterintuitive. Students will learn theories and discuss empirical studies as well as connect the content in the course to their own lives to understand the impact of close relationships research and looking at everyday interactions with a more critical and scientific understanding.

STATISTICAL METHODS IN PSYCHOLOGICAL & BRAIN SCIENCES

Teaching Assistant (In-Person and Remote)

The goal of Statistical Methods is to teach students the basics of how psychological researchers use statistics in their projects. Students attend lectures to learn theoretical concepts and context for analyses that are applied in lab sections. During lab, students work together with the TA to run real world statistical analyses using the programming language R. Homework and exams are also given to the students to test their knowledge and understanding.

ADVANCED RESEARCH METHODS IN PSYCHOLOGICAL & BRAIN SCIENCES

Teaching Assistant (Hybrid)

In Advanced Research Methods in Psychological & Brain Sciences, students not only learn psychological research principles but actually apply them to their own study that they conduct. While students had to previously take a basic research methods course as a pre-requisite, in this course, students must work in a group to generate a research question, design their study, collect data, analyze their results, and present their study via a public poster presentation and a final research paper. Students will learn the skills needed to conduct their own research project via lectures and labs guided by a TA.

ADVANCED RESEARCH METHODS IN SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY

Teaching Assistant (In-Person and Remote)

Advanced Research Methods in Social Psychology is structured similarly to the Advanced Research Methods in Psychological & Brain Sciences course, but students learn how to conduct research specifically within the social psychology context.
