PERSONAL BIO

I grew up in Rockville, Maryland, and I received my B.S. in Psychology and Decision Sciences from Carnegie Mellon University. I then earned my PhD in Social Psychology at UCSB with Dr. Nancy Collins as my advisor in the Close Relationships Lab. I'm now an assistant teaching professor at University of Washington's Department of Psychology, where I primarily teach courses in research methods and close relationships. Outside of research, I enjoy playing with my dog, Freddie (pictured above), watching Youtube videos (about both psychological and non-psychological topics), and playing video games.

RESEARCH INTERESTS

My main research interest is how do people maintain their close relationships, and what are the consequences of the different forms of support one can provide. I also incorporate culture into my research to understand the different ways people can convey love and provide support to their close others, as well as to investigate which forms of support best fit one's culture. I have also looked at the unique benefits of different modes of communication, such as using affectionate touch as a form of providing love and support.
